TON Trustless Bridge — the RSquad Team Moved on to the Second Stage of the Development Process
After completing the first stage of work on the bridge which will ensure the integration of the TON blockchain with EVM-enabled networks, the RSquad team moved on to the second set of work.
Let us remind you that in the first phase RSquad managed to create a light TON client on EVM, the virtual machine of the Ethereum network, which allows developers of one blockchain to read the messages of another platform, with verification of transmitted data being conducted without the involvement of intermediaries (relayers).
In December 2022 we plan to work on the client interface, so that anyone can start working with the created service in test mode.
- After we finish working on the interface, there will be a long period of open testing and searching bugs with the help of our community, testing by different teams. — Anatoly Makosov, one of the main developers of TON Foundation, said. — When we refer to the bridge, we should understand that we are talking about big money, so securing the code will take a long time.
Roman Nguyen, the CTO of RSquad also commented on the plans to launch developing a full-fledged application in December 2022, through which users will be able to get acquainted with the functionality of the created light client:
- We have the process of DApp implementation planned for December. It will be a full-fledged application with smart contracts, with a backend and a frontend, in which users will be able to make their first trustless exchange in test networks and also study the documentation, contracts, read about the product and so on.
Roman Nguyen suggested that the launch of the application could take place in March-April 2023.
The second stage of work will include the development of a DApp for the TON light client on Ethereum, as well as analytics. The next task for the developers will be to develop the reverse service — the Ethereum network client, which will run on the virtual machine of the TON blockchain.
- Now we are at the analytics stage, our goal is to understand what we need to add to the core of TON in order to implement a light Ethereum client on the TVM virtual machine. — Roman Nguyen said. — These may be built-in functions for cryptography and other things. We are also exploring the possibility of using the so-called “sync committees” which were added to ethereum as part of the Altair update. Additionally, we are exploring the use of zero knowledge proof for signature verification in EVM to optimize a light TON client written in Ethereum.
As a result of work on the project as a whole, the TON blockchain will get a fully functioning TON Trustless Bridge, the uniqueness of which will be that the security of operations in it will be guaranteed by the security of the blockchains themselves.
At the moment, a common weak point for such bridges between blockchains is the need to use intermediaries that become the target of attackers. Here, the consensus when transferring tokens from one platform to another is reached at the level of the blockchains themselves, and not at the level of a third party — a network of relayers that are often hacked.
As a result, TON will launch a bridge through which it will be possible to transfer unlimited amounts without fear of losing these funds when attacking relayers and other intermediaries, since the only way to hack the bridge will be to hack the blockchains themselves.
TON (The Open Network) is a high-performance layer-1 blockchain which is an implementation of the Telegram Open Network planned by the Durov brothers. After the Telegram team stopped developing TON, an active open-source community of developers continued to maintain the network and create new TON features, bringing Telegram’s design to life. As of 2019, the core TON network is live, with ultra-cheap, fast, and environmentally friendly transactions.
As of 2022, the TON blockchain remains one of the few truly scalable blockchain projects capable of performing millions of real turing-full smart contract transactions per second.
